To begin with, Hitsugaya's personality is a bit different, not to mention, ironic. While his physical appearance is that of a child, he, undoubtedly, acts like a grown, responsible adult. He sometimes even seems more mature than some of his colleagues who are adults themselves. Hitsugaya is a person who is wise far beyond his years. And let's face it: he's not exactly and open book. He can sometimes be sort of stern, and introverted, to an extent.

During some chapters, it's evident that Hisugaya is very responsible when it comes to paper work, rarely procrastinating. He sometimes gets a bit mad if Rangiku doesn't finish her work! When it comes to battle, Hitsugaya is very skilled and powerful. He's attentive, thinks quick, and is rational. Though he tends to keep his calm most of the time, sometimes he will lose control. One of his weaknesses is his desire to protect Hinamori Momo. That isn't to say it's a bad quality. In fact, most of us would think it sweet, no matter what the reason. He would go out of his way to ensure her safety, and if he fails to do so, well then, all hell breaks loose.

Hitsugaya rarely shows his happiness. If not, very vaguely. Throughout the series at this point, Hitsugaya is never shown with a smile on his face. Even though he is one of the top-ranking Shinigami in Seireitei, it still doesn't mean that he's truly satisfied, or even happy, with himself. There is an omake chapter available that takes place during a sort of surprise "party" planned for Hitsugaya. Aizen mentions that for a person born in Rukongai, who doesn‘t really know their date of birth, that even knowing your birthday is happiness itself. His thought become exposed to the reader for a moment, and though almost unclear, shows a brief sign of satisfaction.
