Hinamori Momo

Flower-Gathering

I LEFT you in the morning,
And in the morning glow,
You walked a way beside me
To make me sad to go.
Do you know me in the gloaming,
Gaunt and dusty gray with roaming?
Are you dumb because you know me not,
Or dumb because you know?

All for me And not a question
For the faded flowers gay
That could take me from beside you
For the ages of a day?
They are yours, and be the measure
Of their worth for you to treasure,
The measure of the little while
That I've been long away.

Never had I found a more perfect poem than this. Hinamori Momo is, so far, the closest person to Toushirou that we know of. They used to be neighbors back when they both lived in Jurinan, before they became shinigami. Thus, they've had some kind of history together. During the first story arc, we are exposed to little parts of their relationship; how it progresses, or even parts of their past. Their relationship in the story isn't as important, but it reveals to us certain aspects of both characters individually (like how we learn Toushirou has a caring side, despite his sometimes indifferent demeanor). However, like all relationships, it still has it's flaws.

Before Ichigo & co. enter Soul Society and had made their little "impact", Hinamori and Hitsugaya's relationship was quite friendly. Probably too friendly, according to Hitsugaya. Hinamori would often refer to Toushirou with nicknames or on a first name basis denoting how close they are, which irritates Toushirou because those aren't dignified enough. Toushirou probably just wants to be recognized by Hinamori as her (and others') superior. Hinamori promised she would start calling Hitsugaya by his surname if he ever got into the Shinigami school. Of course, now that he's not only a graduate, he's also a captain. Yet, Hinamori still doesn't refer to him that way as she promised.

Names aside, Hitsugaya definately cares about Hinamori. It's not indicated in a romantic fashion, but Hinamori is of strong important to him. According to track 8 of the Bleach Drama CD, you hear of how Toushirou learned Hyourinmaru's name. He acheived his bankai because of his strong will and desire to protect someone, which is presumably Hinamori Momo. Toushirou would do anything to protect her per se even risk his life; the only thing he can offer to her is a very extraordinary gift: himself.

Alas, Hinamori doesn't quite see this, and there's nothing else Hitsugaya can do about it; he's done more than enough on his side already. True, she still worries about other people rather than herself. However, she concentrates so much on the well-being of others that she doesn't realize there are other people worrying about her; especially people like Hitsugaya.
